Image of the Day

Nasa posts an "Image of the Day" page every day. Here are 3 of my favourite images:

Star Field

Star-Studded Sky Field

According to NASA, this image of a field of stars was "taken by the Hubble Space Telescope and shows the heart of the globular cluster NGC 6638 in the constellation Sagittarius."

Curiosity's Dusty Selfie

NASA states that "Since August 2012, Curiosity has been exploring 3-mile-high Mt. Sharp in Gale Crater. The rover has climbed more than 2,000 feet (612 meters), reaching progressively younger rocks that serve as a record on how Mars has evolved from a wet, habitable planet to a cold desert environment."

 Curiosity Rover
Gamma Ray Ghouls

Gamma Ray Ghouls

As NASA says, "In the depths of the universe, the cores of two collapsed stars violently merge to release a burst of the deadliest and most powerful form of light, known as gamma rays. These beams of doom are unleashed upon their unfortunate surroundings, shining a million trillion times brighter than the Sun for up to 30 terrifying seconds. No spaceship will shield you from the blinding destruction of the gamma ray ghouls!"
